Ushahidi Foundation Uganda

Ushahidi Foundation Uganda (UFU) is a registered non-profit, non-partisan civil society organization working to strengthen democratic governance, promote civic engagement, and enhance human dignity in Uganda. Founded in September 2024 and incorporated under the Companies Act (2012), UFU operates on the belief that active citizen participation and transparent electoral processes are the backbone of sustainable peace and national development.

Civic Awareness and
Voter Education

We champion widespread civic literacy by educating citizens—especially marginalized groups—about their democratic rights and roles.

Election Observation and
Electoral Integrity

UFU monitors elections using independent observers and civic tech tools to crowdsource and verify incidents of malpractice, voter suppression, and violence.

Livelihood and
Socioeconomic Resilience

Peaceful participation is impossible without dignity. Our livelihood programs empower communities through skills training, access to resources, and development support to avert voter bribery.

Advocacy Highlight

In January 2025, UFU released a critical call-to-action press statement titled
"Strengthening Electoral Integrity for a Transparent and Inclusive 2025/2026 General Election."
The statement emphasized the need for:
01
Electoral reform based on lessons from the 2020/2021 General Elections.
02
Full accessibility for PWDs at polling stations.
03
Legal mechanisms to enfranchise prisoners and Ugandans in the diaspora.
04
National unity in opposing electoral violence and intimidation.

We continue to demand accountability from government institutions, security forces,
and the Electoral Commission to protect every Ugandan’s right to vote freely and fairly.

Our Channel

The Ushahidi Foundation YouTube channel highlights the work of the Ugandan civil society organisation dedicated to strengthening democratic governance, civic engagement, and human rights. It shares videos on community voices, election observation, voter education, and the use of citizen‑generated data to promote transparency and accountability in Uganda’s democratic processes.
